If you were one of those kids tagged with the moniker “Reds,” “Super Squirrel,” or “Mr. Peanut,” then you know just how embarrassing and annoying nicknames can be. (We certainly do.) But now that we’re fully grown and, um, well-adjusted, we know nicknames can be funny, endearing –- and even helpful.

Helpful? Sure, especially when they’re pet names for your online savings account.

So, we’re holding a contest to see who has the best nickname for their savings account. Got a fun, brutally honest (see: embarrassing) and/or motivational savings account nickname you’d like to share? Great. Here’s how to play:

Submit your entry here in the comments section of this post. Please provide your name and your best savings account nickname; please also make sure to enter a valid email in the email field (otherwise, we won’t have a way of contacting you if you’re a winner!).

Deadline for entries is 8 pm ET on Sunday, Feb. 7th.

We’ll choose our ten favorite entries and place them into a poll here on We, the Savers.

Voting on the poll begins on February 9, 2010 at 12:01 a.m. (ET) and ends at 11:59 p.m. (ET) on February 10, 2010. (So tell your friends to come back and vote!)

Entry with the most votes win $250 (deposited into their Orange Savings Account^TM of that nickname, of course); entries with the 2nd and 3rd most votes win $100 and $50, respectively.

Remember, a good savings account nickname is an entertaining, motivating reminder of a few of your financial goals in life. It helps you keep your eye on the ball. And it says a lot about you and your approach to money.
