Tightwaddery: Made-up word, but we like the sound of it.

Daniel Webster may not approve, but tightwaddery’s our favorite new vocabulary word. It means cheapskate, frugal, or one who saves (we’ll take that as a compliment thank you very much). And for this frugal blogger, tightwaddery isn’t just a word. It’s a way of life.

We think it’s time for everyone to embrace their inner tightwad, in fact. Saving your money’s a great start, and it’s what the author calls “active” tightwaddery. Depriving yourself of the basics like eating out, not vacationing, no new clothes, etc.? That’s a little more the behavior of the passive tightwad. Which one are you?

I save a lot, hate spending money, and painstakingly consider each purchase decision. I may be a tightwad, but I do sleep so much better knowing I have much more than just rainy day money set aside.
