Spend time planning for your honey(moon).

Now that you’ve finished planning your wedding on a budget, it’s time to think about the honeymoon. Newlyweds dream of couples massages, dinners by candlelight and long walks on the beach or strolls down scenic European streets. The reality is that most young couples don’t have any extra moolah for a vacation to a far-off land. Especially right after the wedding. But don’t worry. It’s possible to take your dream vacation on a reasonable budget.

Just like I wrote about in my Wedding Savings Tips blog, prioritize. Spend the most money on things that are important to both of you, whether it’s a cruise or skydiving adventure. With a little planning ahead of time, you’ll be able to relax instead of obsessing over the cost of everything.

Don’t feel like you have to go far from home to have a good time. Search online for resort deals in beach or mountain towns closer to home. You may be able to drive or take a train to your destination, saving money on air fares and taxi services to and from the airport.

Once on your honeymoon, announce that you are “just married” every chance you get. That phrase has “free round of drinks” and “complimentary upgrade” written all over it. Check out The Knot for 15 more ways to save on your trip. And remember, the week or two after your wedding is about spending time with the person you love, and you can’t put a price tag on that.
