Paperless is next to effortless.

Haven’t gone paperless? If we told you all your friends are doing it with their online bank accounts, cable/phone bills, health/car insurance, car payments – anything that needs a paper check and stamp – would that sway you? We thought so.

By simplifying your accounts with paperless statements, you’ll simplify your life. You’ll get cool wow now things like 24/7 access to your account information, instant updates about activity and 2 years of statements archived and filed (here’s the kicker, by someone else). Plus, you’ll reduce the chances of your personal information being lost or stolen – paperless means more secure, more convenient and more up-to-date. Instead of looking through your “unique” filing system in your home office (right next to your awesome 10-year paystub collection), all you have to do is sign in to your account, click a couple of buttons, and there you go. And if you really “need” the tactile experience of paper in your hands, we won’t hold it against you (much). You’ve still skipped the envelope, the extra filler you won’t read and the inconvenience of waiting for the information to arrive via pony express.

Sure it’s the right thing to do. But the truth is, going paperless is the smart, savvy, Saver thing to do. And it’s secure. It means less mail to open (and less clutter), fewer paper cuts and a cleaner, happier life. OK, we went a little overboard on that last one, but we’re really big on paperless here. And wouldn’t it be so much nicer to do all the productive things you need to do from your home computer, laptop, or handheld? Paperless? More like effortless. Now, tell all your friends you’re down with it.

A lot of great chatter going on about paperless and the pros and cons.

Few answers to some questions and comments:

Safety: Paperless is safer when it comes to account info, transaction history and other important personal information because it is stored on a secure site rather than sent through the mail, etc.

    Accessibility:

Statements: We store your statements for 2 years. But, you can download them at any time- so you can easily file them to ensure you have them if needed. Let your tax professional fill you in on IRS business. Our best advice: have a system where you file your statements once a year (if not more frequently).

Transaction History: As for downloading CSV files here is what you do- sign in, click on your account, and then click the ‘download’ link at the top right of your transaction history, select ‘spreadsheet (comma separated values),’ lastly select the date range you want to download. Then, you’ll have all your data in a spreadsheet to use as you please.
Even if your computer crashes, you can view the statements online for a 2 year period. And if you need them beyond that just give us a call.

How to do it? : If you want to go paperless with us visit http://www.ingdirect.com/paperless or for other institutions you do business with ask them, or look on their website.

I totally understand the paperless push.
How do you suggest going about that old-fashioned ritual of balancing your checkbook (this is still supported by You, The Savers, yes?
Any suggestions on an electronic checkbook w/o having to deal with the MSN Money or Quickbook monsters?

I would love to go paperless but my husband does not use a computer. If something happened to me, he would be lost without paper statements in the mail.
We are senior citizens and I don’t feel that chance is worth taking.

My gripe is why should I have to waste my time in going to the site of my bank or whatever company and using my paper, toner, and power to print my statements for them, thus saving them tons of money on labor and materials when I won’t see any of those savings passed on to me and I’m doing all the work? It’s their service to me, not vice versa. If they want us to start being paperless, they better offer some incentive to do so.

Paperless?? I still have to print the information (payment of bills, etc.) on my printer USING PAPER.
FYI: My elderly parents don’t even have a computer and yet they are being charged to have a statement mailed to them. This is insane and I just found out a few companies that I deal with will be charging me to send a statement in the mail - needless to say I will cancel my services with them and find a company that won’t do this.

I would LOVE to go completely paperless, as I’m overwhelmed by the paper invoices and statements I receive in the mail. Mostly because of the fact after paying or balancing them I stack them up to file later. . . well you know how that turns out, an increasing stack. I have made a diligent attempt at going paperless by signing up for paperless statements where available. Now I’d like some tips on what to do with those that don’t offer statements online. Instead of filing (or piling) them what about scanning them and filing them on the computer and then shredding the paper for recycle? Does any one have any tips, or know of a website or book where I can learn more about organizing this task? Next task will be to somehow stop all the paper junk mail I receive.

I read your “pitches” extolling the virtues of “going paperless” but nowhere can I find a page from which to sign-up ?

  14. Sorry for my ignorance, but I read all this talking about “PAPERLESS” but still I did not find the place to sign up. Some time ago I thought I signed up, but I still receive my statements on the mail.
    Thanks for your help.
