Bank charges: freedom from fee-dom.

These days, it feels like everybody’s out to make a quick buck. Or 3. Chances are if you’ve used an out-of-network ATM to grab some cash, you’ve noticed the “convenience” fee. Not convenient at all and rather a rip-off (especially since some banks are increasing their ATM fees). It’s YOUR cash, after all. You shouldn’t have to pay to access it. And what about the other fees you’ve accumulated from your bank accounts? Overdraft fees? Monthly charges? And other random hidden fees? Remember, these fees hit your bottom line just like any other expense, so make sure you’re aware of them. And take steps to avoid them when possible.

CNNMoney.com takes us through some not-so-obvious fees and how to protect ourselves from fee free-falling. We can’t stress enough how reading the fine print and all disclaimers is a must (and a little painful) when opening new accounts. But it’s so worth it. And we’re not just talking loan accounts, but checking, savings and brokerage accounts, too. Do you get a little overwhelmed when it comes to understanding the hieroglyphics that translate into your account terms and conditions? Do yourself a favor: ask questions and don’t sign anything until you know the terms, fees and other details of what you’re taking on. Remember, it’s your right to have transparent terms and conditions upfront. If you don’t, it’s time to shop around.

I recently ordred some back copies of statements and was told that you charge $5 for each. It seems to me that such a fee is steep especially for long time clients with a substantial balance.
Thank you for your attentino to this matter.

I pay absolutely no ATM fees!! Any fee I do get charged for a transaction anywhere in the world, I get reimbursed; 100%. Period.

No fee? You rake off two percent of withdrawals at a foreign ATM! That’s more than a fee, that’s highway robber!
